Frequent questions will be posted here.
Q: How can I bid for a renovation project?
A: The Medford School District advertises requests for proposals (RFPs)
at
http://www.medford.k12.or.us/RFP.asp?SectionID=140
Q: Could you add a running total of
current expenditures on each project compared with their project budget?
A: That's a great suggestion and we have added that feature to
each project.
Q: With
all of these project managers, who is in charge of the bond projects?
A: The Medford School District Bond Project Committee (comprised
of School Board and Administration Members) is in charge of every detail
of the bond projects and will oversee four project managers assigned to
the large renovation projects. These project managers help distribute
the work so that all projects can be finished on time and on budget
simultaneously. All District purchases over $75,000, including Bond
Purchases, are brought to the School Board for approval in the
semi-monthly purchasing report. A Project Manager Report will occur
every month as needed.

Q: I’m concerned about traffic in
the general area and neighborhoods. Will the Medford Police be
monitoring this? Who do we report this to if it becomes the
dangerous problem?
A: The School District is waiting for the results of a traffic
study which should inform us about the immediate impact of the high
school project. This information will become public information and
available for all to review. The School District has a good relationship
with and is confident that the Medford Police will assist us in
monitoring public safety in the neighborhood. If situations were to
develop, you could contact both the high school principal and Medford
Police Department. These are matters that we will have two years to plan
for, which will aid us in finding the best solution.
Q: What about side
street parking? Residents don’t want unnecessary cars parked in
their neighborhoods. How can we prevent that from happening?
A: This, too, is a matter that deserves careful consideration. The city
can help us figure out the various options for controlling where
students park. We will have substantially more on-campus parking spots
than the current South High campus. But it is possible to somewhat limit
on-street parking to non-school hours.
Q: It is sometimes
slow-going getting onto Cunningham Lane from Warren Way due to morning
and afternoon traffic. Won’t this be worse with school traffic
added?
A: A lot of this congestion will not be affected by students.
The high school start time is 8:45a.m.—about 45-60 minutes after the
morning commute to jobs and dismissal is at 3:46 p.m.
Q: For the sake of
the neighbors, could you please use tall evergreen trees and hedges to
act as a barrier on the west side between the neighborhood and the
campus?
A: The architects have been
discussing a number of strategies to soften the western end of the
campus. We will relay this comment to them as well.
Q: How are the wetlands being dealt
with?
A: The district is focused on achieving the solution that uses the
property to the fullest and benefits students and the community. The
district has assessed the extent of the wetlands on the property is
exploring options for wetlands mitigation. Once that process
is complete, a recommended solution will be presented to the school
board. This should occur in the next few months.
